NAD – RESS optimizes the green road. During the quarter of a century of existence, NAD – RESS has developed into a leading transport company. In its beginnings, it had 100 employees, transport was provided by 54 vehicles.

The first truck purchased in NAD – RESS, a. s., there was a Volvo FH12 420. In 2000, the first big investment came – the purchase of 20 Volvo vehicles, with which they replaced one third of all vehicles. The year 2005 was also important in the development, in which the company saw a significant increase in the number of vehicles from the original approximately 60 to 110 vehicles. In 2022, when the company celebrated its 25th anniversary, it already had 209 Volvo, Mercedes, Scania, Iveco and Mitsubishi vehicles and 269 employees.

Comprehensive transport services. The modern fleet is at the level of the most modern European transport companies and on the transport market NAD - RESS provides comprehensive transport services in the transport of goods from 1 t to 26 t. They ensure the connection of dispatching with the crew by mobile phones, as well as by satellite monitoring systems in the vehicles.

They ensure the connection of dispatching with the crew by mobile phones, as well as by satellite monitoring systems in the vehicles.

In the field of international transport (main transport destinations: Spain, France, England, Germany, Belgium and Italy) and domestic transport, they transport various types of goods (frozen goods, chilled goods, classic goods, sheet metal rolls and others). Temperature-controlled food transport is monitored online in accordance with ATP regulations. They provide transport services within the Slovak Republic and surrounding states (PL, CZ, HU, AT) for leading manufacturing and trading companies (for example BILLA, GRAFOBAL).

Behind the success of the transport company NAD – RESS, in addition to a technically advanced fleet, is the high-quality personal work with the drivers. Regular training, monitoring and evaluation of drivers also bring international success. Within the competition of European drivers of Mercedes-Benz cars – League of drivers, individuals and teams have repeatedly won leading pan-European positions. From 2020, the position of general director of NAD – RESS is held by the former commercial director Ing. Pavol Kosík, who accepted the challenge together with clients to reduce the emission footprint and look for suitable environmental solutions.

Alternative fuels

After analyzing the market and various alternative fuel technologies, they tried several systems and decided to go the route of CNG and LNG alternative fuels. Natural gas is a greener fuel for combustion engines, it brings significant environmental benefits, which improves air quality, eliminates air pollutants, including very low NO2 emissions, reduces CO2 emissions, which contributes to mitigating global warming.

The basis of the operation of a CNG filling station is the compression of natural gas by a compressor and “pushing” the gas into the pressure vessel in the vehicle. Filling up with CNG fuel is considered safe and easy. With LNG, the natural gas is first extremely supercooled, which changes its form to liquid. Thanks to this, it is possible to significantly increase the amount of fuel in the tank and thus the range of the vehicle, up to 3.5 times. The reduction in emissions depends on the make and model of the particular vehicle, but the difference can be huge.

This is a significant reduction in emissions for each vehicle – up to 99% particulate matter, 90% hydrocarbons excluding methane, CO2 emissions reduced by approximately 15% compared to diesel and up to 95% compared to biomethane. Driving vehicles on LNG and CNG is also associated with a significant reduction in noise below the so-called night operation, which helps to increase the quality of life of people in cities and towns.

This alternative also appeared to be a good substitute for diesel for long-distance transport with approximately the same range. Moreover, in a situation where there is pressure throughout Europe to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the LNG route is also accepted nationwide, and LNG fueling stations are gradually being built in Slovakia as well. However, even this alternative fuel is considered a temporary replacement in the framework of reducing emissions. The expansion of the fleet with LNG tractors is also supported by NAD – RESS partners in distribution for retail chains.

"In the first phase of the project, we tested several truck brands that meet the conditions for ecological transport. The manufacturers allowed us to familiarize ourselves with the technology in detail, explaining all the pluses and minuses. After obtaining real results from the testing, a decision will be made on the next course of action. The market for alternative fuels is developing rapidly and the situation surrounding alternative fuels LNG and CNG is also changing. For us, of course, the profitability and efficiency of transport, as well as the rate of reduction of the ecological burden of our transport, are in the first place. Based on the evaluation of these criteria, we will decide which green path will be the best for us," says Ing. Pavol Kosík, general director of NAS -RESS.

And he adds: “In temperature-controlled food transport, the quality and energy consumption of refrigeration units also come into play. We follow new trends and also new technologies for obtaining energy for refrigeration units. We are interested in the trend of using photovoltaics on the roofs of superstructures and semi-trailers as additional energy for cooling units.”
